Dasavathaaram, a phenomenon
Finally, Dasavathaaram, the much-awaited phenomenon, is ready for release. The craze associated with it is not only proceeding unabated but is ever-growing. It is unclear what kind of frenzy it would unleash when it hits screens on June 13, 2008.
Now looking back, the film has been in the news ever since it was announced. Gradually, the hype and frenzy associated with it picked up and reached its pinnacle during its magnificent audio release. Now all the frenzy has reached new heights with its release just a few days away.
When Galatta interviewed some of the ticket buyers at the counters, they were thrilled to have bought tickets to the movie, particularly, FIRST DAY FIRST SHOW. They said they had their hearts in their mouths until they finally laid their hands on the tickets. Some of them have been waiting since 6 a.m. in the morning.
Truly, Dasavathaaram deserves all this hype. It looks very big and grand and gives a feel like it can never get any bigger than this. This is all the result of an actor’s insatiable hunger for perfection in cinema and love for cinema.
It is heard that the film is based on the chaos theory – the effect of one individual’s deeds on a system and thereby on the life itself – in short, Karma and Physics meet in this film. If this is the case, then believe us, the film will make everyone in the West sit up and take notice. It will become a craze as the West loves Indian philosophies.
Dasavathaaram is the only film which became a super hit even before its release and that too without releasing any news pertaining to it except that Kamal has 10 roles. Even the nation’s most celebrated Sholay was a hit only after its release.
We are lucky to witness the birth and growth of this important milestone in cinema – a film which captures the essence of life.
Dasavathaaram, larger than life
The news is that Dasavathaaram is a success already. All the VIPs who have seen the film have not stopped raving about its grandeur and magnificence. They were spellbound and unable to believe that someone could make such a beautiful and grand film. They said that this film might bring home the Oscar that has eluded Kamal Haasan all these years.
The film, according to them, is very intelligent with all the necessary commercial ingredients kept intact. The way this intelligent idea is packaged is wonderful because anyone who watches it can understand it and enjoy the show.
The ten roles that Kamal Haasan has done in this film are grander than projected so far in the studio handouts. All the hype around the movie seems justified seeing such a response.
Brian Jennings on Dasavathaaram
Brian Jennings has said that Dasavathaaram has taken Indian Cinema to international standards. It has put Indian Cinema on a very high pedestal from where it can be seen and admired by everyone.
He also added that after Star Wars and Jurassic Park, Dasavathaaram is the only picture which will be highly rated for its special effects.
He said that the highlight of the film is the tsunami scene. In fact, this tsunami scene has caught all those VIP’s attention who watched a special preview yesterday. K. Balachander, Rajinikanth, Manorama, Sarathkumar, Radika Sarathkumar, Bharat, Suriya, Prabhu, directors Dharani and Vishnuvardhan were at the special screenings.
He added that 10 different companies were involved in the film for its special effects and the work was apportioned to each and every one of them. He said that there are many scenes that will draw the attention of the people, for example, the film has a scene which depicts heavy rainfall which was done by Andy Nelson from Florida. He said he cannot divulge more information than this.
He also added that the visual effects of this film are seamless. The film is completely based on special effects because of the nature of the script.
All in all, it has been a wonderful experience working in Dasavathaaram for this New Zealander, who has worked in over 35 films. Brian and the other technicians involved in the film have worked very hard and have done a very commendable job. Brian is happy that the film has come out good and is looking forward to the people’s reaction towards it and to his work.
He also said with a glint in his eyes that he has been deluged with offers from many Indian filmmakers but did not give any information about his participation in those offers.

Jackie Chan honours Dasavathaaram
With his hilarious gimmicks and physics-defying stunts, Jackie Chan has won hearts all over the world. This icon got a glimpse of what’s happening on the sets of Dasavathaaram, and he was thoroughly impressed!
To obtain Chan’s confirmation, Ravichandran, along with his brother Ramesh Babu, had personally gone to meet Jackie at his residence in Hong Kong and shown clips from the film to the star. Overwhelmed by Kamal’s amazing performance, Chan is believed to have agreed immediately to the proposal. In addition, he also organized a party in Hong Kong to announce his confirmation.

Dasavathaaram: Ready for release
Well, it’s about time! The wait is almost over for Kamal fans! This mighty movie is set to storm the cine scene on April 10th, 2008!
Taking its core from the story of Lord Vishnu and his ten forms (avatars), Dasavathaaram has the multifaceted Kamal Haasan sporting ten roles. Amongst them, he dons the guise of American President George Bush, an tall man (8'), a dark-skinned business tycoon, a 90-year-old lady and even a temple priest! For the man who has already sported a variety of roles in his cinema career, this would certainly have been child’s play! Not the acting, but getting into the guises was the most tedious! Hollywood makeup artiste Westmoor is the man who helped Kamal transform from one character into another with hours of makeup sessions prior to the shoot everyday!
Directed by K.S. Ravikumar, Dasavathaaram has cost an astronomical amount! The production cost incurred is around 50 crore rupees! Shooting for the movie ended late last year and post-production work has been on in full swing since. Pairing with Kamal in this movie are Asin (in a double role), Jayapradha and Mallika Sherawat. Other players in important roles are Napolean and K.S. Ravikumar himself!
Dasavathaaram will be dubbed in Telugu and Hindi and be released along with the Tamil version. While Kamal will dub for his role in Tamil and Hindi, in Telugu it will be super singer S.P. Balasubramaniam who will dub for Kamal’s characters. SPB has already dubbed for the actor several times before.
Following Bommalattam, this will be Himesh Reshamaiyya second Tamil music album. While he has scored the songs for the movie, Devi Sri Prasad has done the re-recording.
The movie has been eluding release for quite some time, but we can be pretty sure that it will be worth the wait!
Dasavatharam BGM by Devi Sri Prasad
Music director Devi Sri Prasad is all smiles nowadays. Why? Because the composer has been asked by Kamal Haasan and ‘Oscar’ Ravichandran to do the background score for the most-awaited movie of the year, Dasavatharam. Devi Sri Prasad has previously composed for Vijay’s Sachin and Suriya’s Aaru in Tamil.
The music of Dasavatharam is by Bollywood’s Himesh Reshammiya. However, the makers were in search of a composer to do the BGM as Himesh was busy with his Hindi projects. They had initially approached music maestro A.R. Rahman, who was initially supposed to compose the music too. However, Rahman too was busy with prior commitments and politely declined the offer.
Finally, the trio of Kamal Hasan, director K.S. Ravikumar and ‘Oscar’ Ravichandran zeroed in on the hotshot Tollywood composer to do the BGM and Devi Sri Prasad willingly accepted the offer.
Looks like the energetic composer is having a great time and we at galatta.com wish him the very best in his endeavours.
Sony BMG enters Kollywood
The Indian entertainment industry is fast growing, and Sony, the world’s No. 1 music company, had decided to expand its territory within the country. With Dasavathaaram scheduled to release on 10th April, the industry is abuzz with expectations, given that Kamal Haasan sports ten different roles in the movie. Add to this the fact that the movie’s music will be presented by Sony BMG, and the expectations soar higher!
Music for some of the biggest Bollywood blockbusters such as Guru, Rang De Basanti, Lagaan, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kal Ho Na Ho and even A.R. Rahman’s 'Vande Mataram' was released by Sony. With Dasavathaaram, they will be stepping South for the first time. And what better opening could they have asked for than a movie produced by Oscar Films, one of the industry’s biggest production houses and starring one of India’s best artistes, Kamal Haasan?
Mr. Shridhar Subramaniam, Managing Director, SONY BMG India, said, “It is a privilege for us to enter the Tamil music market with a project as grand and special as Dasavathaaram. Being associated with Mr. Kamal Haasan & Mr. V. Ravichandran of Oscar Film in our very first Tamil project says a lot about the equity of SONY BMG, even in markets where our presence has not been significant till recently. Dasavathaaram is a very special beginning for the things to come and it shows our commitment to be a serious long term player in this market. SONY BMG has always redefined the way music has been marketed, and we are looking forward to setting new standards here as well.”
Dasavathaaram case dismissed
Kamal can finally breathe a sigh of relief. The case of pliagarisation against the film has been dismissed. The judge has said that the film's story has no similarities with the story given by the plaintiff. Hence there is no case at all.
The film has been in the centre of attention, either for the various getups of Kamal or for these kinds of controversies. The film has Kamal playing ten different roles, along with Asin in a double role. Mallika Sherawat has done a special role in the film.
Dasavathaaram, directed by K.S. Ravikumar, has music by Himesh Reshamiyya.
